Is a scream a verbal submission?
by Grimm » Fri May 25, 2012 10:05 pm
So Bellator does it again. A few weeks back I saw a fight end because of a non bleeding cut and now I saw a fight end because of a scream of agony. I agree that the fighter that was in the kimora couldn't escape and I was sure he was moments from getting a broken arm ala Frank Mir style. The question of a submission attempt that can be escaped from could be halted by a scream, yell or other noise considered by the ref to be a verbal submission defined by the unified rules of MMA. Could it come into play in the UFC? There are questionable stoppages as we've seen and something like this could indeed make the referee a big factor in a fight.

well grimm for me this is kinda tricky this rides the fighter safety issue pretty close i mean it was obvious he was not getting out of that submission and he was really close to tapping but when you can physically see a grimmace or hear what you think is a cry of pain the ref HAS to stop the fight.
first and foremost is fighter safety and if any injuries can be avoided they should.Alot of people think this was an early stoppage and i sorta agree but it was only premature by seconds if that.So what the guy is too stubborn to tap does that mean the referee is supoosed to let the guy get his arm snapped?......no he did what was right his face was in pain and if your screamin in an obviously bad position you should know there gonna end the fight.
Before every fight you are allowed to ask questions after the rules are told to you, im more then positive they tell you that if your in a submission any type of scream will signify a verbal tapout.
I mean think about it how stupid can you be your in an armbar close to the end of the round all you gotta do is survive and your gonna start screamin and barkin what the hell do you think the ref though was goin on he was barking for extra power lmao.

Oh and like i said before the spiritwolf fight was stopped not because of the cut over the eye but it was the cut on the inside part of the eye socket which extended to the inside of the bridge of his nose. The cut well i should say gash was about 3 to 4 inches in lenght and when the doctor spread it to see how deep he could see skull bone.
I dont remember the exact number but spiritwolf needed some serious amount of stitches for that It was one of those cuts its so deep it didnt even really bleed. The shitty commentating by bellator crew led people to believe it was the minor cut above spirit wolfs eye when it was obviously the giant gash that the camera wouldn't even zoom in on.

SpiritWolf gain a new fan for his handy work, I kinda lost the fire that was under me to expose the truth
. I think that the ref made the right call but I was stuck wondering if something like this could happen in the UFC. Fans could get angry if they don't see blood or a snap, I'm not that type of fan*unless it's a PPV

hey grimm what did you think about the prince albert fight????Kim winslow and i stand by this 100 percent is the shittiest ref in the biz.Stopping a fight with no tap and no yelling granted he was belly down in a bad position but he was WORKING OUT of the situation he was about cross his legs over maybe geting side control and out of the sub but we will never FUCKING winslow!!!

I think the early stoppages and verbal submissions are bad on the fighter on the losing end at the (heat) of the moment. My stance is ''Live to fight another day". Take the JDS/Cain fight. Cain went down and took light damage but had the fight stopped. The continued abuse could have lead to a concussion or something along those lines. He would have been medically sidelined 90 days or so.
