UFC 147...expect the worst ratings

Postby Grimm » Sun Jun 17, 2012 9:48 pm

In the beginning the Brazil card was the best idea with the chance to change the landscape of the Middleweight division and MMA in general. The things that could go wrong with a card did in fact happen. At one point Anderson Silva was scheduled to defend the title in his home country, then problems were reported. Then the reports were saying everything was still going as scheduled...then on the rocks again. So the Silva/Sonnen rematch was moved and it was the Wanderlei Silva/ Belfort rematch that looked to be the best alternative and I was sold for one. As luck would have it the UFC 147 PPV follows the free event featuring Maynard and Guida in what I think will deliver regardless of ratings and critics. The PPV on the other hand could be the lowest rating wise since 2005. With money to lose, the UFC could blame the injuries after Vitor Belfort pulled out and a less than top competitor was found. Rich Franklin was a last minute fill-in that has already fought Wanderlei and once again will happen at catchweight. I don't see the coverage for the event and there hasn't been too much hype leading into fight weekend. It looks as if the UFC is just going to do the event and catch the first flight out of Brazil. Better days are going to be spent working on UFC 148 and all production time will be focused on the Silva/Sonnen rematch. UFC ready to take a loss on this event? They won't admit it but I think so. I wouldn't be surprised if Dana White didn't show claiming an illness or what.
