Wanderlei Silva nearing retirement?

Postby Grimm » Sun Jun 24, 2012 12:49 pm

After the storied career in any sport there will come a time when the everyday preparation becomes dreaded task. The outside chance to return to the glory days can often lead to heartache and disappointment. Wanderlei Silva is a Pride FC living legend and the nickname Ax Murderer speaks volumes. A dominant career ends when either a fighter doesn't evolve or in most case, time catches up and the glory days leave due to injuries and fatigue. So as of last night we saw a former Pride champion face a former UFC champion in a rematch that was a last minute replacement to a rematch between the same. Only the name changed. Well unfortunately the chances for Wanderlei in either a fight with Vitor Belfort or Rich Franklin weren't great. Wanderlei held his own but in spite of a Fight of the Night performance, it might be time for him to walk away from the sport. Fedor Emelianenko retiring this past week might be a sign that others are seeing retirement is an option as opposed to fighters like Bob Sapp who continue down a path of self abuse and continued search for wins. Whatever Wanderlei chooses, as long as its on his own terms the fans should respect his decision. Win or lose Wanderlei is a Legend.
