The UFC is its own worst enemy

Where do you begin with a Pay Per View? My answer is a combination of fights you're willing to pay to see and a feeling of justification when you purchase. The UFC had a disappointing event sales wise with UFC 147 for two reasons, they didn't run the complete TUF Brazil season before the event and the fact Vitor didn't fight Wanderlei. Taking a potential good international event and making it a fight night full of fighters that the fans hadn't grown familiar with. The Main Event was Rich Franklin fighting Wanderlei but it was a main card fight being showcased as a Main Event. The most awaited event to happen in a series of disappointing events was projected to do a million sales was UFC 148. The UFC had a solid fight with the rematch between Sonnen and Silva leading the event with the retirement fight of Tito Ortiz adding more substance to the card. With all the advertising and promotion for the event, the event didn't make the sales figures projected. I think the event was a success and that the UFC just set unrealistic goals in terms of money rather than action. Going into this Saturday's event the injury bug has been present as always but this time fans have had enough. The news was some fans were asking for refunds and had apparently had enough with the bait and switch method of doing business. When confronted with the questions about the situation Dana White said only the ticket scalpers were upset. In a bold statement he believed he had defused the situation but instead had added more truth that UFC 149 was less than Pay Per View material. I agree. The injuries were a problem that isn't a new situation but rather a reoccuring problem that they have yet to be solved. With lack of true competition or even a rivalry with a competing MMA group, the only thing that can stop the UFC 's momentum and dominance is in fact itself. Things like injuries and rescheduling are excuses to cover up for booking rematches in the title pictures, focusing on trying to get New York to accept MMA rather than focusing on doing quality events for those that are pulling for them Cities and fans alike. Then there's the fact that the UFC won't own up to any of this!

Wow preach brotha!

yeah im not trying to come off as a hater if the yfc i mean i have kinda said the same thing all along since they were battling it out with affliction lol.The ufc is expanding so much JUST to prove dominance not really to be the best. Its sort of ill m,ark this territory first so now its a ufc favored country lol.

While the ufc has grown exponentially in the last years it has done so without the major changes necassary to support such growth, now the problems are surfacing and it is becoming apparent changes need to be made.

The fist and most obvious problem is judging and referreeing the last three ppvs and fight nights have all been basically a showcase for horrible decisions and bad ref ing.we had mark munoz damn near put in a coma due to rosenthals super late stoppage, and last night eve lavigne let kongo and savage just clinch and hug for fifteen minutes what a joke.

grimm you know me i love ALL mma ufc and every little popup mma org there is if theres fights im there but with that being said the ufc is the face for mma by there own choice and standards. They alone need to showcase the very best of mma and things that dana would have been laughing at if they had happened in strikeforce(before purchase)are happening in the ufc on a regular basis be it fighters disrespecting fans or media figures,to fighters brawling backstage or at weight ins to just all around shitty cards being hyped up to only not only not deliver but leaving fans regreting ever watching it.

The ufc dana white in particular has stated he has been out to make mma a valid and legitimate sport.

ahahahaha lmao this is the furthest from the tuth sure he took away headbuts and nut shots put in weight classes and made the UFC a household name but what has he done for MMA???

he has single handedly destroyed every upstart company to even get close wec and strikeforce both fell victim both told they would operate as usual while the wec was consumed in whole and strikeforce picked apart and left to die.

Like i have stated before if dana was actually trying to make mma a sport he would have actual rankings in place instead of a musical chairs game of interim belts and contenders.

Also he would put into action a rule making referees and judges pass big jon mccarthys class of competence or atleast a similar program to ensure better fight decisions and to ensure fighter health and safety that should be priority number one.

insteadd what we have seen is the introduction of more weight classes to fill the void that is the ufc roster in every other weight class. The ufc pulled a fast one on us all remember when wec was talking about doing ppvs???I for one called them nuts as there weight classes that were famous were all super light guys who have no nameablity or real mma credability.

now we are paying for faber vs barao bs and every other fight card is loaded with these unknown tiny 135 ers or 45 ers making us pay to watch them bs i say.

dont get me wrong there are some serious high level fighters at 135 or 145 but the division is far from stacked as advertised mostly made up of 155 rejects.

I said this a while back, after the purchase of StrikeForce I knew the UFC will somehow self destruct on its own. UFC brass believe that the more fighters they have the better their cards will be, but thats not the point.

The point is quality in their cards, UFC 100 was a succes not due to Brock Lesnar alone, but the entire card starting with Sexyama/Belcher fight, then the TUF coaches Hendo/Bisping, the Welterweight title fight GSP/Alves, and the main event Lesnar/Mir 2 for the Heavyweight Championship.

That was a fucking card and it was because of the fights that led up to it, not just 1 fight alone. UFC was ahead of StrikeForce, but SF did something diferent than the UFC that worked. Their cards were held not every month, but when they did they had fights that fans wanted to see with the talent they had.

They also had the challengers series showcasing new talent with main events of already established talent like Ultimate fight nights in UFC. UFC needs to show more UFN's nd less PPV's in order to get the fans because no one is buying the PPV's cuz they cant afford them every month.

I appreciate the comments. This subject is a real eye opener for me. UFC 69 was the first event that happened in Houston besides GSP facing Matt Serra, there were some very good fights. Leonard Garcia vs. Roger Huerta(put both on the map), Alan Belcher vs. Kendal Groves, Mike Swick vs. Yushin Okami and the never before seen Luke Cummo vs. Josh Haynes( worst blood bath on a untelevised event). Awesome night of fights in 2007 when everyone I named was a hot commodity. Then you left thinking damn can imagine the next event to come to town, things can only get better! Unfortunately they didn't. The promise of Cain Velasquez defending the title in Houston was quickly shot down then the card started going south with action. To say one good thing for the past event, the UFC Fan Expo was great and the action book made me pass on tickets was the down side. The let down for fans that get an event every few years if ever again is enough to make asking a refund sound not so far fetched.
