The need for the split of the 265lb division
by FKA » Sun Jul 22, 2012 7:34 pm

I have long been an advocate for a fairer split in weight at the Heavyweight division. This last year alone we have seen the birth of the fly, bantam, and feather weights to add choice for fighters between the 125-155lb limit who were For years were stuck at 155 when they were much smaller and belonged fighting guys truly their size.
With the new weight classes we have seen the instant flow of new and exciting talent while not always polished always exciting, and most importantly fair to the guys who put there lives and bodies out there every fight.Every fighter deserves a fair shot and thats why the split at 265 HAS to happen. There are currently 4 weight classes all operating under a 50 pound weight difference ,each division split by roughly 9 pounds why is it that in the heavyweight division alone there is enough room for 4 weight classes?
Now relax i don't want to clutter up ufc and mma with 4 new divisions i want to make and even split giving fighters a comforatable amount of weight to experiment with and conform to,to put on the most athletic and fair fights possible.
The simple answer IMO is to open up a 245lb weight division and give birth to the first ever LEGIT super heavyweight division at 285lbs
AS it sits i have divided up the ufc hw talent by the new divisions i would like to have opened and id like to report is a damn near even split down the middle,i have even gone out of the way as to do a quick rankings list by far it isn't concrete but just an idea to show you how it would break down off the bat.
At the 206-245lb heavyweight division rankings
1)Junior Dos Santos(238lbs)
2)Cain Velasquez(240lbs)
3)Fabricio Werdum(246lbs)
4)Big Nog(240lbs)
5)Cheick Kongo(240lbs)
6)Stipe Miocic(245lbs)
7)Gabriel Gonzaga(242lbs)
8)Lavar Johnson(240lbs)
9)Shawn Jordan(245lbs)
10)pat Barry(244lbs)
11)Dave Herman(242lbs)
12)Edinaldo Oliviera(238lbs)
13)Shane Del Rosario(246lbs)
14)Phil Defries(241lbs)
15)Oli Thompson(235lbs)
At the 246-285lb division rankings
1)Alistair Overeem(265lbs)
2)Frank Mir(260lbs)
3)Roy Nelson(254lbs)
4)Mark Hunt(265lbs)
5)Stipe Miocic(245lbs)
6)Shane Carwin(254lbs)
7)Bigfoot Silva(265lbs)
8)Ben Rothwell(250lbs)
9)Brenadan Schaub(250lbs)
10)Travis Browne(250lbs)
11)Matt Mittrione(265lbs)
12)Mike Russow(255lbs)
13)Rob Broughton(258lbs)
14)Christian Moorecraft(260lbs)
By doing this we would have fairer fights and we could have alot of guys jumping up from LHW that are big like a jon jones and of course guys in either division could bulk up or drop down accordingly giving much more choice and longevity to careers and making for more exciting fights.
More importantly in my eyes it would open up for the first time in MMA HISTORY a real stacked super heavy weight division.I mean we are going from butterbeans to brock lesnars lol imagine the beast lesnar could have been or still could be at a weight cap of 285 and the other legit IN SHAPE monsters it could produce.
also for those of you saying wow these divisions dont have that many people outside the ufc to look for talent well you are wrong as i have gone ahead and scouted that out as well and even weight classed them and guess what it was again virtually a straight split down the middle check it out.....
....This is a list of guys fitting in each weight class not ranked by skill levels......
Fighters outside the UFC at 206-245lbs that are worth bringing in IMO
1)Shamil Abdurahimov(213lbs)
2)Alexander Volkov(213lbs)
3)Akhmed Sultanov(239lbs)
4)Vinicius Queiroz(230lbs
5)Vitaly Manikov(242lbs)
6)Alexei Kudin(242lbs)
7)David Oliva(228lbs)

18)Andrius Kraniotakes(244lbs)
19)Bobby Lashley(243lbs)
20)Mark Ellis(245lbs)
21)Karill Sidelnikov(220lbs)
22)Mike Potter(238lbs)
23)Gerald Turek(235lbs)
24)Baga Agaev(220lbs)
25)Karol Bedorf(230lbs)
26)Yang Hai Joon(230lbs)
27)Manny Lara(230lbs)
28)Ed Carpenter(219lbs)
29)Tyrone Spong(228lbs)
30)Daniel Cormier(238lbs)
Fighters outside the UFC at 246-285lbs worth bringing in IMO
1)Guram Gugenshvili(249lbs)
2)Jared Roshalt(259lbs)
3)Nick Gaston(255lbs)
4)Chad Corvin(253lbs)
5)Justin Wren(265lbs)

11)Darrill Schoonover(247lbs)
12)Bryc Palmer(255lbs)
13)Gabriel Salinas Jones(260lbs)
14)Marcio Cruz(256lbs)
15)Konstantine Gluhov(257lbs)
16)Kazuhisa Tazawa(251lbs)
17)Koji Kanechika(253lbs)
18)Sergei Kharitonov(250lbs)
19)Karl Knothe(255lbs)
20)Ryan Martinez(262lbs)
21)Scott Barrett(265lbs)
22)Aljin Ahmic(250lbs
23)Martin Thompson(274lbs)
24)Lee Beane(265lbs)
25)Ty Lee(256lbs)
26)Geronimo Dos Santos(264lbs)
27)Carl Seamanatafa(256lbs)
28)Jon Murphy(260lbs)
29)Josh Barnett(248lbs)
The best thing about the bigger portion of guys outside the ufc is that they are almost exclusively russian fighters or in lower mma orgs stateside With the financial problems of m-1 global, and the lack of well paying european mma orgs. most if not all of these guys are guaranteed to end up stateside as has been evident with the recent signings to bellator and other mma orgs stateside.
If you want a more in depth look and breakdown of skills of any of the fighters i posted here you only need to look at my past blogs about heavyweight talent abroad (the great heavyweight debate)i listed and broke down all of these guys talent and potential and even graded them so please feel free to dig around.
I hope that this finally opens peoples eyes to exactly how unfair the heavyweights have been treated and actually how easy it would be to fix it,also how beneficial it would be not just for us fans but for mma on a whole.
so my final question to you is DO YOU THINK THAT SPLITTING THE 265lb DIVISION IS A GOOD OR GREAT IDEA?
IF MY OPPONENTS HURT TOO BADLY I SHOW THEM MERCY,IF THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT MERCY I END THE FIGHT.[FEDOR]

I haven't been on that many sites of MMA in a longtime since most of us left the UFC.com. And then the StrikeForce buyout, but I believe the division should be 230lbs since most fighters like to cut weight in order to be bigger than their competition. To me the lighter weights should be equal in diference to their other weight classes.
As you have written their are enough Heavyweights to make this happen, but the real answer is "Does the UFC want to do it?".......the answer is "NO."
UFC can separate the Heavies into 2 divisions and finally bring in the Cruiserweight division(230lbs), but again that would be panned by a lot of fans that dont want to see the Heavyweights split up. Cause most Heavies would cut to 230lbs rather than being in the Heavier class with Overeem, Bigfoot and Carwin. Cause they're huge, but they can be beaten as we have seen with JDS and Cain.
My argument has always been to change the weight classes as a whole, not just 1 division, but all.
Starts with.....
Heavyweight(unlimited, but you have to have talent)
Cruiserweight(230lbs, cannot cut weight exceeding 20lbs/9kg)
Middleweight(200lbs, cannot cut weight exceeding 20lbs/9kg)
Welterweight(180lbs, cannot cut weight exceeding 20lbs/9kg)
Lightweight(160lbs, cannot cut weight exceeding 20lbs/9kg)
Featherweight(145lbs, cannot cut weight exeeding 15lbs/7kg)
Bantamweight(130lbs, cannot cut weight exceeding 15lbs/7kg)

Or the case could be as simple as Bringing back the Heavyweight division to strikeforce and bring those fighters into SF and make Cormier the Champ

230 could work as well i just prefer 245 cuz as is most ufc and damn well half of all the heavies fight naturally around 235-245 if they are really the smaller guy at 245 they should just cut to 205.
I agree ufc doesnt want the split cuz that would affect there ppv sales lmao but if they truly want mma to be a SPORT they need to make things fairer at the top end of the weight classes.SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE.(by the way great to see you on here bro been way too long)
