I don't think his chances are very good of winning a fight on short notice and with Ellenberger as an opponent those chances are almost none existent. However I do believe by stepping up Hieron is guaranteed at least one more fight under the UFC banner.

I agree his chances are slim, plus Jake is coming with a vengeance.

Hieron isn't all that bad, is he UFC material? so far no, he's 0-2 in the UFC, although his first fight was against GSP, and that was GSP's second UFC fight. and believe it or not, GSP TKO'd Hieron in the first round via punches.
He got thrown into the deep end for his return fight as well. But it should also be noted/considered that he fought Askren and in my opinion beat Askren, and he's 11-1 in his last 12 fights, he could surprise a few of us with win over Ellenberger who i might add has already lost to Hieron back in the IFL.

They are obviously both much more evolved skill-wise than they were when they faced each other back in 2006, but it may play into Jake's mind that he's already lost to Hieron. So This could be a better fight than most of us are thinking it would be.

For some fighters the UFC 's octagon is a bad place. Fighters that dominate outside the UFC make their way into a debut fight with win streaks and momentum just to fall flat. Jake Shields win a majority draw, Hector Lombard lost a decision and numerous WEC fighters have been in a decline since crossing over. Hieron is just a part of that curse that just seems to take potential and turn it into octagon jitters.
