Aaron Simpson and Diego Sanchez considering dropping down after recent losses

Both fighters fought great fights, but in the end someone had to have their arm raised, and sadly for both fighters, they were not the ones. Now both fighters have expressed that maybe it's time to drop down a weight class and into a division that is more suited to their body type.

For Sanchez, he is considering returning to the lightweight division again, a divison he saw limited success in when he dropped down a couple of years ago. Sanchez is likely thinking that maybe now that he's no longer drinking and is in good mental shape, he'll have a better run.

Sanchez believes he's somewhat stuck between both weight classes, and wishes there would be more classes that suit his body type.

“There’s always a chance of me going back to 155. I have one loss at that weight class,” Sanchez said after his loss to Ellenberger on Wednesday night. “I’m wish-washy whether I’m going to stay at 70 or 55 because it’s real hard for me to stay at 70. I have to be able to lift weights a lot, like I really have to be able to lift weights a lot.

“I’m stuck in between both of the weight classes. It has its ups and downs. At 70 and 55, I have to cut more weight at 55, at 70 I have to lift more weights.”

“I wish it was a 155, 165 and 175 honestly,”

For Simpson, he's always been a small middleweight, he likely fights at middleweight because he doesn't like to cut weight, but after taking on a very large Ronny Markes, and being handled by the Brazilian for 3 rounds, and considering that Markes beat him with the use of only one hand, (he broke it early in the fight), it may be time to consider dropping down to welterweight. and to  weight class that is more conducive to his body type.

Although Simpson briefly had Markes in trouble in the 1st round, but was still unable to finish him.

“I thought I could have finished him in that first round, but he’s tough, I had him out there for a little bit I think.  You can’t count on the ref jumping in, you’ve got to take him out all the way and I didn’t do that.”

“He’s a big dude.  I probably weighed 192, 191 in that fight and he probably weighed 215 or 220, he’s big, I just don’t cut for this weight class. I look at a guy like Frankie Edgar, thinking I can do the same thing, but I’m dealing with a lot of size."

“Maybe it means a move down to 170, I don’t know.  Right now it hurts to lose.”
