Following Wednesday night's UFC on FUEL event, Dana White voiced his opinions regarding Dan Henderson's status in the Light Heavyweight division. Coming off an epic victory over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua last November, Henderson decided to decline a proposed fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to wait and see how last month's UFC on FOX card would pan out. The outcome of that decision did not fall in "Hendo's" favor as both Rashad Evans and Chael Sonnen prevailed victorious, ultimately ending any short term plans at challenging for the titles of both Jon Jones and Anderson Silva.
In the wake of these transpired events, Henderson has put himself in an uncertain situation that has left him with very little options at the moment. When asked about his thoughts concerning this Light Heavyweight limbo, Dana White had the following to say -
"He doesn't want to fight Machida.... He doesn't want to wait... but he's going to have to wait. Who does he want to fight? I don't know what to do with Dan. Dan is either going to have to wait for Jones and Evans winner or wait for the Silva and Sonnen winner.... Or fight somebody else."
Many fans around the sport, as well as "Hendo" himself, feel like Dan has done enough to earn a shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Dan realizes that now at the age of 41, these next couple of years could very well be his last in mixed martial arts competition and is understandably anxious to get the title shot he deserves while avoiding potential bouts he is uninterested in. In the wake of White's comments, Henderson took to Twitter in his own defense stating that the UFC has not even offered him a potential fight against Lyoto Machida. Check out what "Hendo" had to say...
@danhendo Was never offered machida. And even though he has lost 3 out of his last 4, I'm sure it would be entertaining.
Although Henderson hints that he might just be open to a fight against Lyoto Machida, it really does not make much sense for either guy regarding where they currently stand within the division. Jon Jones and Rashad Evans are scheduled for battle in April and rumors suggest that Anderson Silva may not compete until June. "Hendo" has stated that he wanted to fight Jon Jones after UFC 140 so the most likely possibility would see him challenging the Jones and Evans winner late this summer at the very earliest if injuries are not a factor in the aftermath of UFC 145.
