After finally recovering from an incredibly grisly Frank Mir Kimura that snapped his arm between his shouder and his elbow in the main event of UFC 140 in Toronto back in December, a break that required surgery to repair, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is now set to get back into the Octagon once again.
This time around Nogueira will face Chieck Kongo at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta Canada on July 21st.
Originally reported by the calgarysun.com, and then verified by a tweet from the UFC_Canada twitter account. The two heavyweights will definitely be part of the main card. Currently the main event is to be a Jose Aldo featherweight title defense, but after yesterday's press conference in Brazil, it seems more than likely that the UFC will move Aldo's title defense to the Brazil event since Silva and Sonnen 2 has been moved to Las Vegas instead of headlining the event in Brazil.
Rumored as the new main event is Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson for the Light Heavyweight title.
"If we could make that fight happen (in Calgary), that’d be great,” said White at yesterday's press conference.
Kongo returns to the cage after suffering a first round TKO (punches) loss to a vastly improved and re-jeuvenated Mark Hunt at UFC 144 back at the end of February, the loss also snapped a 2 fight win streak for the Frenchman. Kongo is a very respectable 3-1-1 in his last 5 fights.
UFC 149 is set to take place July 21st, 2012 in Calgary Alberta, Canada at the Scotiabank Saddledome
Here's the card so far:
- Cheick Kongo vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
- Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Thiago Alves
- Antonio Carvalho vs. George Roop
- Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon
- Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen
- Court McGee vs. Nick Ring*
