Top ranked welterweight Thiago Alves (18-8) will be returning to the Octagon against undefeated Sweden welterweight prospect Papy Abedi (8-0) at UFC 138 at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. The event will be the first UFC MMA event in England of 2011.
Thiago Alves will be in a must win situation for the first time in his UFC career. The veteran is currently on the worse streak of his MMA career with a run of bad luck with injuries and brain surgery that lead him to a 1-3 record in his last four fights. Now Alves will look to return with a vengeance at UFC 138.
Papy Abedi is a 33-year-old prospect with an undefeated record of 8-0. The judo specialist will be making his UFC debut as he looks to make a statement by taking out one of the best welterweights in the world. Abedi recently signed a four fight deal with the UFC and will be looking to prove himself in the division.
It will be interesting to see as the two welterweights look to meet inside the octagon. Alves is the favorite to win the fight as he has been on top of the welterweight rankings for years, but Abedi will be looking to capatalize on his oppertunity and Alves current slump.
