The news of Domenic Cruz tearing his ACL and being forced off the upcoming UFC 148 card where he was supposed to fight Urijah Faber in a co-main event for the bantamweight title, was a massive blow to the UFC. one that will really change the appeal of UFC 148. Although not drastically.
Urijah Faber released a video post yesterday where he discussed the Cruz injury, and his possible opponents for a hopeful interim title shot. Considering there is 2 months to go before the fight, finding an opponent and allowing them enough time to train and prepare shouldn’t be all that difficult.
A Rumor has been circulating that Cruz actually injured his ACL helping Ronda Rousey Train and not in his own personal training for the Faber fight. But so far it’s just that, a rumor.
Here's part of what Faber had to say:
“It sucks for everybody. Especially myself and Dominick and I wish him a speedy recovery. You don’t wish that on anybody and I know he wanted to scrap,” said Faber in the video released yesterday.
“Now, I’m just waiting to hear what happens. I’m thinking an interim title, he’s been out almost a year and a half now once this surgery goes through, it’s going to be another 9 months, so I’m hoping for a top contender.”
“Renan Barao in my opinion is next up, Michael McDonald after that, and Ivan Menjivar after that, so I’m just waiting to see. I know as much as you guys do, but I'm ready to scrap July 7, As far as I'm concerned that's what's going down.
"Don't worry you guys, me and Dom will scrap soon." Faber said.
