It appears we will now see a battle of two heavy handed strikers as Thiago Alves will now take on Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Bahadurzada will be stepping in for the injured Yoshihiro Akiyama as he looks to pick up the biggest win of his career.
"Siyar The Great" is coming off of a 42 second knockout win in his UFC debut over the tough Brazilian Paulo Thiago earning the impressive striker Knockout of the Night honers. Currently on a 7-fight win streak and looking to pick up what will be undoubtedly the biggest win of his career at UFC 149 Bahadurzada could put himself in the mix for a title shot should he pick up the short notice win.
Hitting a rough patch in his career as of late Thiago Alves is 2-4 in his last 6 fights. Although impressive in his assault over Martin Kampmann the fight still resulted in a loss as Alves was submitted by a Guillotine choke in the closing minute of the third round. Now Alves will be looking to return to his winning ways as he hopes to one day fight for the title once again.
