The UFC has finally put a date and an event to the long awaited Henderson vs. Edgar II rematch. There was so many rumor’s, and so much speculation as to where this rematch would land, but now we can put all the guessing to bed as the re-match finally has a location and an event number.

The UFC officially announced that new Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson will face off against Frankie Edgar at UFC 150 in Denver Colorado on August 11th 2012.

This will hopefully be the last rematch in the lightweight division. When Frankie Edgar won the Lightweight Championship from BJ Penn back at UFC 112 in April of 2010, the fight was deemed so close that that they gave Penn an instant rematch for the title, sadly for Penn he would end up losing again to Edgar. Penn then decided to move back up to welterweight.

Edgar then moved on to fight #1 contender Gray Maynard, at UFC 125 the two squared off in a back and forth battle that was eventually ruled a draw, a draw in a championship title fight obviously means a rematch will be required. The two then squared off again at UFC 136 where Edgar beat Maynard by TKO late in the 4th round.

The win finally signalled the end of the rematches that had bogged down the Lightweight division for what seemed like 2 years. Sadly for the Lightweight division, this was not to be the case, At UFC 144 Benson Henderson faced Edgar for the title, a fight that Henderson ended up winning via unanimous decision.

The unanimous decision for Henderson didn’t go over so well with the ex-champ, he felt he won the fight, and demanded a re-match. The UFC smartly tried to avoid another rematch as Dana White tried to convince Edgar to accept the loss and move on by dropping down to Featherweight, White offered Edgar an instant title shot vs. Jose Aldo, but Edgar could not be convinced, he instead talked White into booking the rematch.

So here we fans are again, waiting on another re-match to sort out the Lightweight Championship. Hopefully for us fans, that this time around there will be a definitive ending to this fight, I’m not sure if most of us can endure another re-match.
