
This announcement comes as no surprise, as we have reported several times in the past, about the UFC likely heading to Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais Brazil for UFC 147. According to the UFC press release we just recived the UFC has finally and Officially announced that the event will indeed take place in Belo Horizonte Brazil.
The event will mark the 3rd UFC event for Brazil over in roughly the last 12 months, The event is now set to take place in the arena known as “Mineirinho”, although officially named “Estádio Jornalista Felipe Drumond”, it’s the biggest indoor arena in Brazil, the seating design is set up in a way which shpu;d be perfect for viewing a UFC event. It's capacity is actually a little bigger than the HSBC arena in Rio, Mineirinho holds 25,000 people while the HSBC arena holds only 18,000 people.
The nickname “Mineirinho” (meaning small Mineiro) is due to the arena being located very close to Mineirão (big Mineiro) which is a massive 75,000 seat stadium. “Mineirinho” is used mainly for basketball and volleyball.
“It is great for our fans and for the UFC to be able to stage events in new parts of Brazil. The UFC is exploding everywhere in the country and Minas Gerais, being the third biggest state in the country, seemed like the perfect place for this. Not only has Mineirinho received some major acts through the years, but it is also located in a central and touristic area of the city. It will certainly be a fantastic experience for the fans”, says Marshall Zelaznik, UFC Managing Director of International Development
UFC 147 is now officially set for June 23, 2012.
