After a quick and easy knockout win over the former long-time WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres, Michael McDonald was without a doubt one of the favorites to fight Urijah Faber for the interim title shot especially after calling the former dominant WEC featherweight champion out after his last outing. It appears McDonald will not have his chance to shine just yet as a hand injury puts him out of the running for a interim title shot.
According to BloodyElbow.com:
Wrestling Observer founder Dave Meltzer reported in his Thursday update that UFC president Dana White said McDonald’s hand was injured but didn’t go into details about the severity or how long he would be out for. Meltzer added that one source told him that McDonald was the favourite to get the nod against Faber.
With McDonald crossed off the list of possible contenders for the interim title shot in the bantamweight division that really only leaves one logical choice which would be top 5 bantamweight and well rounded Brazilian up-and-comer Renan Barao who currently rides high on an outstanding 18-fight win streak.
