Despite claims of being the undisputed and undefeated champion of the UFC it appears UFC middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen has finally come back to reality as he admets he is jealous of Anderson Silva, who has racked up a 14-0 record inside the octagon which includes breaking the record for consecutive title defenses. Sonnen says they will have to figure it out like men.
"I don't want his autograph," Sonnen said via Yahoo.com "I want to spit on him. I want everything that he has. I'm jealous and I'm envious. And I will never apologize for that. There can only be one champion, and you have to fight it out. He's not gonna give it up; I'm not going to give it up. We're going to have to fight this thing out and figure it out like men."
Well Chael Sonnen has not fully come back to reality as he now blames a "misunderstanding of the rules" is what caused him to tap to Anderson Silva's Triangle Choke in round five which gave Silva the title and possibly most impressive comeback win in UFC history. Sonnen says he thought tapping would end the round and take it to the scorecards.
"That was a misunderstanding of the rules," Sonnen added. "The way I thought it worked was that if you tap, you lost that round. I thought what they were going to do was go to the judges' decision; they'll go four rounds to one, then we'll go home and I'll be the new champion. And if anyone had explained to me that that stops the fight in its entirety, I would not have tapped. … I'd never been in a five round fight, I just didn't know."
Although it is always an interesting moment when Chael Sonnen speaks it is safe to assume that he isn't always telling the truth. Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will be fighting for the second time at UFC 148 in what will be considered one of the biggest title rematches in the history of MMA.
With eight submission losses on his record two coming in title fights one would assume Chael Sonnen has learned the rules by now. For more news, updates, and rumors on all things MMA stay connected with www.MMAMATRIX.com.
