It is official former long-time WEC featherweight champion and widely considered number two in the world at bantamweight Urijah Faber will be taking on hard hitting Brazilian contender Renan Barao for the UFC interim title the winner will face Dominick Cruz once his injuries are all healed up.
The announcement that Faber and Barao would meet was made tonight on this Friday's addition of The Ultimate Fighter: Live. With Cruz out of action due to a tore ACL this bout will be in place for an interim title giving the winner a guaranteed title shot.
After picking up a dominating win for Brian Bowles, who many considered to be number two in the division, and making it look easy Faber earned his shot at the title and coaching oppisite Cruz on The Ultimate Fighter: Live. Now "The California Kid" will be facing a rather different challenge at UFC 148 in an interesting battle in the 135-pound division.
Currently on a 18-fight win streak and undefeated in his last 28 bouts Renan Barao will look to pick up what would undoubtedly be the biggest win of his career with that could come the toughest challenge of his career but the always prepared Brazilian warrior will be looking to earn his first major title and prove to the world he is one of the best that the division has to offer.
