Despite his successful career inside of the cage it appears Nick Diaz's set backs have come mostly outside of the sport whether it be brawling in a hospital, not showing up for press, or failing a drug test. After losing to current interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit, Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites and after months of speculation and legal action against the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) Diaz's punishments for the positive test were made earlier today.
The former Strikeforce welterweight title holder and top 5 contender in the UFC will be suspended for a total of 12 months starting from his February 4th loss to Carlos Condit. Diaz will also be fined 30% of his fight purse and his full OTN (of the night) bonus. Diaz and his attorney Ross Goodman made many attempts to get the suspension overturned but it seems that will not be the case for the fighter out of Stockton, California.
It was not addressed whether or not Nick Diaz will go through with his retirement plans made following his emotional loss to Carlos Condit but one thing is for sure, if you think Diaz and his camp was mad after the bout at UFC 143 they must be livid at his current situation.
