Anderson Silva has no plans at 205, says he will let his teammates handle Jon Jones

UFC middleweight champion and highly regarded as the best fighter on the planet Anderson Silva will be fighting Chael Sonnen in a rematch of his impressive comeback win which will take place at UFC 148. Although the rematch is considered one of the biggest rematches in UFC history it seems questions of the light-heavyweight division and a possible superfight with Jon Jones still gets thrown his way.

“We have a couple of athletes on the above division, which are Rafael Feijao (Strikeforce), who’s a big name in the division and Fabio Maldonado, who just fought and lost by points. We have many guys in this division." Silva told Tatame Magazine. "On my weight class, besides me in the UFC, there’s (Ronaldo) Jacare in the Strikeforce. Our team focus on each of us and try to let us take our chances and take advantage of them, so we don’t have this ambition of me going to the light heavyweight division and fight each other.”

Anderson oreginally took an interest in the division in 2008 when he beat James Irving and the following year beating former champion Forrest Griffin but after the pressure by UFC president Dana White and many fans to move up permanently and fight best friend and training partner Lyoto Machida, Silva loss interest and never returned to the division. It appears the 37-year-old will not be moving back up anytime soon.

“I’m gonna leave (defeating Jon Jones) to Maldonado, Feijao or even Rogerio (Nogueira) too." Silva stated. "They are on his weight division, so they’ll deal with him.”

It is no surprise that Silva is uninterested in fighting inside of the light-heavyweight division especially after being pressured to fight his teammates in the past. With up-and-comers and contender whom he have yet to fight such as Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher, Brian Stann, Michael Bisping, Mark Munoz, Chris Weidmann, and Rousimar Palhares it is likely that the stacked middleweight division will keep the champion occupied for awhile but fans will continue to long for a superfight between Silva and Jones.
