After the dust settled at 146, the UFC president was discussing pretty much everything with all of us media types, but one of things that came up what what the UFC had in store for Alistair Overeem since he was busted for P.E.D’s.
According to the UFC president, he’s done with Overeem, he no longer has any desire to deal with him, and will now leave those duties up to Lorenzo Fertitta to take care of any discussions or negotiations with the giant heavyweight.
Speaking to the press after the fight, Dana White said: (Transcribed by mmaweekly.com)
“He lied to me. He sat in front of us, he lied to us, I’m not interested. I don’t have to deal with people I don’t want to deal with and I don’t want to deal with him, Lorenzo (Fertitta) will,”
White went on to reveal that they will indeed be retaining Overeem and not releasing him.
"He went before the athletic commission and he got his punishment. He’s going to serve his sentence now and when he comes back, he has to apply for a license again and then we’ll go from there,”
White als revealed that Overeem would likely retain his contender status in the Heavyweight division, meaning they won’t force him to work his way back into contention.
“Yeah, I think he should (regain his standing in the division),” White said.
Overeem’s 9 month suspension will end at the end of December 2012, so we should expect to see him fight again in Early January, likely at the UFC’s 1st event 2013.
