Reports coming out of Brazil this evening are indicating that UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson "The Spider" Silva, has sustained a knee injury while training for his upcoming title defense against Chael Sonnen on July 7. Tatame.com originally released the news of Silva's injury and claim that "The Spider" will have his knee assessed sometime tomorrow.

Hopefully, the results from Silva's examination will not be as serious as Dana White and the fans fear, however, it is likely that Silva's setback will have an impact on the rest of his training and maybe even his performance at UFC 148. Tatame claims that Silva opened up to the Brazilian media about his injury during his appearance at a Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation event. Silva is reported to have told the press that he suffered the injury during training. The report states that "The Spider" was not limping and did not seem very worried about it while being optimistic about the recovery process.

In the wake of his injury report going mainstream, Silva just recently tweeted a picture of himself back in training with this statement translated from Portuguese:

Folks, my knee’s doing very well, thanks! Relax, July 7th I’ll be doing my job. Oss.

Keep it locked to MMAMatrix as further information regarding Silva and his injury is made available.
