The former US Marine and current top UFC middleweight contender Brian Stann was expected to headline UFC on FOX 4 against longtime Bellator middleweight champion and fellow knockout artist Hector Lombard. Unfortunately Brian Stann was injured but will be looking to take on another challenge in his return as he hopes to face Brazilian knockout artist Vitor Belfort or the technical Brit Michael Bisping.
"I want to fight anyone who's ranked ahead of me," he said. "We want that belt. We all want to be champions. I'm fighting to be a champion, and in order to do that, you have to beat the guys ranked ahead of you to get closer to that title shot. I'd welcome a fight with (Bisping or Belfort)"
Brian Stann made an immediate statement when moving down to the stacked middleweight division with impressive knockout wins over Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago and a submission win over Mike Massenzio. Stann suffared his first middleweight loss to top wrestler and current title contender Chael Sonnen but was able to bounce back successfully with a first round knockout over Alessio Sakara. Although injured Stann's injury will not require surgery he expects two-months of recovery before being able to get back into the Octagon.
"No surgery, luckily," Stann told FUEL TV during Friday's UFC on FX 3 pre-show. "Hopefully I can get this healed up as soon as possible and get my range of motion back. But for now, I can't even pick my arm up."
Now a top ten fighting within the middleweight division it will be interesting to see if Stann does indeed earn a shot against Vitor Belfort or Michael Bisping either way the fight is sure to be one that the fans will enjoy.
