Strikeforce: Paul Daley released from contract

According to a press release from the fighters management team, The welterweight Knock out artist has amicably parted ways with the Zuffa Promotion.

Daley cited his reason for requesting his release was his lack of activity while part of the Strikeforce roster, Daley has a strong desire to fight as frequently as possible, and it seemed that Strikeforce just didn’t have anything to offer him to keep him busy enough.

“I’m happy that Strikeforce has granted my request to be released from their roster as I found it difficult to fight so infrequently,” Daley stated in a release. “My whole career, I’ve wanted to fight as often as possible, as it keeps me in the best form and condition.”

One of Daley’s biggest issues is, is his inability to make weight, and this could be part of the reason why he doesn’t get booked for many fights, as he more often than not comes in heavy.  In fact, in 6 of Daley’s last 14 fights, he has come in over weight. Daley’s lack of professionalism is also likely the reason he doesn’t get booked more often.

I felt that I put on nothing but entertaining fights while at the organization. The knockouts of [Duane] Ludwig and Scott Smith were some great memories for me, as well as the back-and-forth fight of the year I had with Nick Diaz,” said Daley. “My manager has already started speaking to some promotions about my future today following the official release papers from Strikeforce, and I’m looking forward to the next part in my journey.”

I’m not exactly sure what “back and forth Fight of The Year” he claims to have had with Nick Diaz he’s talking about, as Daley was beaten badly by Diaz, where it took the Strikeforce champ only 4:57 to TKO Daley via Punches.

If Daley showed a little more respect for the fans, his opponents and his employers by consistently making weight for his fights, he’d likely be booked far more often.
