Former UFC heavyweight title contender and current light-heavyweight fighter Brandon "The Truth" Vera will be looking to prove all of the doubters wrong as he hopes to pick up the biggest win of his career at UFC on FOX 4 as he faces former UFC light-heavyweight champion and fellow Muay Thai specialist Marucio "Shogun" Rua.
“Go ahead and bet the house on [Shogun]. You don’t have to believe me. Just watch, August 4th, check it out and then let me know what you think afterwards" Vera told MMAFIGHTING.com. "It’s Shogun. After my last performance against Eliot Marshall, they’re supposed to be counting me out. I’m supposed to be the underdog. I’m supposed to get my ass whooped. That’s what’s supposed to be happening, but it’s not gonna go down like that come August 4th Ariel. It’s not. I don’t mind when I’m the underdog, when people are counting me out. That’s when I perform at my best. It’s been like that since high school, since college, since in-between. Every time someone counts me out, that’s when I perform my best so I think that’s why I’m so hyped too. Everyone expecting me not to do well.”
After losing to Thiago Silva at UFC 125 which marked as Vera's third loss in a row "The Truth" was cut from the UFC roster, but Silva failed a post-fight drug test and the NSAC overturned the decision making the fight No Contest and giving Vera another shot inside the octagon. Vera won his UFC return match by unanimous decision beating Eliot Marshall at UFC 137.
Now after a 7-5 (1) run inside of the UFC octagon Vera will have the chance to bring new life to his career as he takes on the biggest challenge of his career in Shogun Rua who is considered one of the best fighters in the division despite his dissipointing UFC record of 4-4. For Brandon Vera a win will immediately boost the Filipino fighter to the top of the 205-pound division. For Shogun a win will mean improving his UFC record and taking one more step toward another title shot.
