The UFC’s president Dana White yesterday revealed during an interview that he feels the next international destination for the UFC will likely be South Africa.
“Actually, mixed martial arts is huge in South Africa right now. There’s a show down there now that I just heard about that is doing 1.2 million viewers every time it’s on. So the sport is booming all over the world, and yeah, South Africa is next. That’s where we’re going.”
South Africa may not be the first country most North American fans would think of when contemplating where the biggest untapped MMA markets are, but you’d be surprised to know that the Extreme Fighting Championships (EFC) has put on 14 incredibly successful events, They have an Africa Wide TV deal with E.TV that reaches millions of homes. and are currently the biggest MMA promotion in all of Africa.
We here at MMAMatrix.com had an exclusive interview with the EFC president Cairo Howarth a while back that should shed more light on the organization.
If you have ever watched any of their events, you’d surely be impressed with their quality of fights and their highly polished production of their events.
