It was a fairly decent card tonight in portland Oregon for Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy. At tonights event we saw the vacant welterweight title get claimed by ex-UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt in impressive and decisive fashion.
In the co-main event tonight Nate Marquardt took on undefeated Strikeforce top prospect Tyron Woodley, Marquardt seemed from the start to establish his jab and octagon control by keeping Woodley backing up with his back close to the fence. But the big scare for Marquardt came about mid way through the 1st when Woodley clipped him behind the ear which dropped Marquardt, However he was able to keep it together and regain his senses to finish the round.
From the second round on, Marquardt seemed to be gaining more and more confidence, where he really established a crisp jab that seemed to keep woodley off balance. Woodley never made it easy for Marquardt for a minute, but overall, and as dangerous as he seemed at times, he also looked confused and unable to deal with Marquardt's pressure and aggressiveness. In the fourth Marquardt finally caught Woodley with a stiff standing right elbow, in where he followe d it up with 2 more right elbows and a upper cut that finally flipped Woodley's off switch.
