Just after UFC 147 in Belo Horizonte Brazil wrapped up, Vitor Belfort announced he was going to take part in the next UFC event in Brazil, set for Rio in October.
Belfort told tatame.com that he wants the opportunity at the very least a top 10 Middleweight.
“Or Weidman, or the winner of the Cuban (Lombard) vs. Boetsch,”
“I’m waiting for my confirmation on the Rio card, to see who’s gonna be my opponent. Nobody has sent me anything yet. I believe I’ll get an answer on that next week”.
When asked about facing Hector Lombard Belfort said:
“He’s good, an Olympic athlete. He’s tough. Let’s wait on looking forward (his debut),” Belfort said.
Belfort also added how he felt about Chris Weidman and his victory over Mark Munoz last week.
“Muñoz has no guard., he’s not a Jiu-Jitsu fighter. That’s a wrestler vs. wrestler matchup, who got to the top position would win. He was tagged, that’s it”.
When asked if anything worries him about facing Weidman, Belfort said:
“I don’t care what he’s gonna do, I know what I’m gonna do: go for the knockout or the submission”.
Belfort is currently recovering from a broken hand he suffered during training that required surgery to repair. The broken hand knocked Belfort off the highly anticipated re-match and main event against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147.
