With all the speculation as to who Anderson Silva is fighting next, and with Silva's teams odd announcement that they don't want Lombard or Weidman next complicating the middleweight contender picture. Hector Lombard now makes the picture a lot more muddier with his desire to pass on the title fight for now and wanting to shut trash talking Mark Munoz's mouth.
According to Lombard who was speaking with mmajunkie.com, he said:
"Saturday, I'm focused on this fight. And after that, I'm going to call Mark Munoz out. I'm focused on the fight, but I'm going to call out Mark Munoz after. That's my goal.
I'm going to make a statement no matter what. But after that, I'm going to beat up Mark Munoz.
He's been talking a lot of trash about me. I'm one of those fighters that I don't like to talk about any fighter. I'm focused on myself. When I see people that do the wrong things, I have to do something about it."
While talking to the "MMA HOUR's" Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com a while back, Munoz made comments about Lombard's lack of competition and that his mma record is padded wth cans. And this is exactly why Lombard wants a piece of the "Filipino Wrecking Machine".
“One hundred percent. You got it. I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to talk about him. I just want to fight him. I want to fight him bad.”
So now this leaves Weidman as the only available and "worthy" opponent if Lombard actually turns down the title shot and #1 contender status, that is if he soundly defeats Tim Boetsch this Saturday at UFC 149 in Calgary.
