Man, this is just a strange promise to make, one that makes no sense as far as these two fighters go, but according to Dana White, he's offered the winner of Rua vs. Vera #1 contender status and of course the next shot title.
This was rumored to be true last week, and now White confirms via today's media conference call that this will actually be the case. A truly bizarre choice in my opinion, and likely just a ploy by the UFC to make people care more about, and give more relevance to their upcoming bout on August 4th on FOX.
As we all have witnessed, Jon Jones has utterly decimated both Brandon Vera and ex-champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and just a guess but i'm seeing the same thing happen to Dan Henderson soon too. Now if Vera is able to beat Rua, I can't see anyone getting worked up about Brandon Vera fighting Jon Jones again, or Rua, Rua has recently said that since there is more video on Jones it makes it easier to prepare and study him.
I really can't see how that would make a bigger difference in the outcome of a second fight though, as in every single fight we've seen Jones Perform in, he is better than he was before, so Rua's theory really only applies if Jones is stagnating as a fighter and hasn't honed his skills since that first fight.
