Bellator 76: Eddie Alvarez vs. Patricky "Pitbull" Freire Official for October

Eddie AlvarezBFC33 belt

Bellator as promised revealed Eddie ALvarez's opponent for what will quite likely be his very last fight for the promotion known as Bellator.

Bellator CEO announced the match-up today that the two lightweights will likely square off as the main event of the Bellator 76 card set for Oct. 12 at Caesars Windsor Hotel and Casino in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Rebney made not other match-up announcements.

Alvarez who owns an absolutely excellent 23-3 record is looking to bounce back with his second win in a row after thoroughly destroying Shinya Aoki and leaving him crumbled on the Bellator mat, the win also avenged Alvarez's loss to Aoki back at DREAM Dynamite! 2008 where he lost via heel hook. Alvarez who held the Bellator light weight Belt since since 2009, lost his belt last year when Michael Chandler did the unthinkable and completely dominated Alvarez for 5 full rounds.

Since then Alvarez has been trying to get a contract done with Bellator and what is belived to be a sticking point in the negotiations was of course money, and a rematch against Chandler, but Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney refused to change the format to allow Alvarez a re-match, telling him the only way to a rematch is to go through the tournament again.

With this last fight now booked, Alvarez is set to become likely the most coveted and sought after free agent in MMA since Fedor went on the market and signed with Strikeforce.

Its is more than likely that he will sign with the UFC, as his only 2 choices are to sign with Zuffa and got for the competition and money or go to One FC and fight guys who are not tested for PED's.

Fiere burst onto the Bellator scene notching to highlight reel KO's before losing to Michael Chandler. Friere bounced back with a win against Kurt Pellegrino but then
Lloyd Woodard stunned everyone and at Bellator 62 beat Freire via Kimura in the second round leaving him with a 1-2 record in his last 2 fights. A win over Alvarez would likely do wonders for his career. and would likely be exactly how Rebney would like to send off Alvarez, With another loss.
