Jorge Santiago is getting his 3 rd shot at registering a win in a Zuffa promotion, Santiago has had 2 stints in the UFC, going 0-2 in both runs with the UFC totally a miserable 0-4 record. Santiago who has done very well fighting in Japan and for smaller promotions just can’t seem to find any luck while fighting in the big show.
This time around he’ll be fighting in Strikeforce, which is desperate need of an influx of new talent to keep their divisions competitive. During Santiago’s time in between his 2 UFC runs, he posted an impressive 11-1 record before signing again with the UFC, where he went 0-2 again, Since leaving the UFC, he has put together 2 impressive wins while fighting for Titian Fighting Championships, KO’ing Leonardo Pecanha and then submitting Justin Guthrie via heel-hook at Titan Fighting Championship 23 back in June. Both fights never made it past the second minute of the first round.
Quinn Mulhern who is a BJJ Blackbelt sports a very good 18-2 record and will be taking on Santiago in his Strikeforce debut. Mulhern lost his first fight with strikeforce against Jason High, but has now put together a 3 fight winning streak where he most recently defeated Yuri Villefort via split decision at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier back on May 19 th.
Jorge Santiago vs. Quinn Mulhern will take place September 29, 2012 at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy.
