UFC 150: Event Quick Breakdown, Henderson Retains Belt in Razor thin Split Decision Over Edgar

UFC-150-Fox-16x9

What a crazy night of fights tonight in Denver, lots of stoppages, and one controversial decision to round out the night  in the main event. And sadly for the loser of tonight's main event, there likely won't be rematch for the loser. And like Joe Rogan said, if there was ever a fight that deserves one, it was this one.

The prelims displayed some new upcoming talent for the UFC with Chico Camus, Erik Perez and Michael Kuiper all notching impressive performances. One other very impressive performance was put in by 20 year old Max Holloway who took on a very experienced and established striker in TUF 15 veteran Justin Lawrence. Holloway was able to handle the striking of Lawrence and dictate the pace, where he eventually landed a beautiful liver shot that felled Lawrence, a few more punches to the face of the collapsed Lawrence sealed his fate.

The co-main event didn't disappoint either, ex-training partners Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard faced of in a quick but furious battle where Cerrone was clipped early by Guillard, somehow Cerrone was able to keep it together long enough to clear his head and throw a beautiful headkick that hit Guillard on the top of the head instantly wobbling him, Cerrone then threw a stiff jab that dropped Guillard to the mat out cold. This all took less than 2 minutes to sort itself out.

The Main event featured two very fast fighters putting in a back and forth fight that saw Henderson take the 1st round then Edgar taking the second, the 3rd was very close, possibly a draw, but it seemed that the last two were incredibly close, though Edgar seemed to have done more in both rounds. Edgar appeared to have won the very close fight but obviously the judges saw it differently, handing a split decision win to the Champion. Edgar was visibly disgusted with the decision but nonetheless accepted his fate, unless Dana White has a change of heart, Benson Henderson will now meet Nate Diaz next and the lightweight division will finally move forward.
