Shoguns camp is trying to quickly dismiss the rumor that he has suffered a knee injury just ten days before his rematch with former LHW champion Forrest Griffin. His manager has been the first to speak on this issue.
Alonso said:
“His knee is absolutely perfect, there’s no injury… I don’t know where people take that from. He’s training hard, following the training scheduled with Rafael Cordeiro, Renato Babalu (Sobral) and all the team… He’s very excited or this fight.”
Camps are notorious for masking actual injuries when rumours surface, proving the old adage that there’s often no smoke without fire. Rua will be looking to get back to winning ways in just a few days time when he takes on another former champion, and the man to defeat him in his octagon debut, Forrest Griffin, at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Chances are even if Shogun tore his ACL he would still want to fight, especially in his homeland of Brazil, so rumor or no rumor the fight is still scheduled. Check back regularily for more information on this matter as it becomes available.
